Basketball has been a part of my life since I can remember. I've always loved sharing my passion, experience, and expertise with other young girls, but in having two girls of my own Avery (15 years old) and Riley (14 years old) it's helped bring me back into the game. When I first experienced the game that shaped my life so much, as a parent, I was disappointed to find that my daughter felt discouraged and frustrated that "basketball was a game for boys". I was shocked to find that there was nowhere for me to take my daughters to experience the game I grew up playing and was such a center of my life from being a water girl as a preschooler for my high school team, playing in and winning a high school state championship, earning my college degree through my sport, and meeting my husband on the hardwood itself! This game is more than a ball and hoop to me, the life lessons I've learned as a result have made me the person I am today. I love sharing my passion with young and older girls to show them the fun, confidence, work ethic, and personal challenge this game can bring. Whether it's fun and camaraderie or trying to take the game to the high school or college level I love working with girls on fulfilling their goals!
Learning proper fundamentals and mechanics at a young age is the key to playing the game of basketball. Unfortunately, many players never focus on learning the building blocks to the game of basketball, so focusing on dribbling, shooting mechanics and footwork, offensive moves to the basket, getting open and moving without the ball, setting teammates up and defensive positioning are key. Once players start to develop proper fundamentals of the game practice makes perfect!
Chelsea is married to Steve Herron, who played basketball at Adrian College, and has two daughters who are enjoying learning the game of basketball too- Avery and Riley. She has her degree in Exercise Science and Education, with a masters in Technology and Education. She enjoys incorporating fitness with her family each day and doing HIIT training.
